There are a variety of ways you may be seen at New England Hematology / Oncology Associates (NEHO). You may be seen in consultation by making an appointment through a physician referral. Depending on what your insurance allows, you may also be able to book an appointment yourself without a physician referral. Not all insurances allow self-referral but many do.
We also welcome the opportunity to provide second opinions. In addition, it may be that you are relocating and need to transfer your care to this area. Whatever way you arrive here, we know how stressful initial diagnosis is, and we strive to keep waiting time for an appointment to a minimum. Be assured that our physicians will do their very best to help you.
We accept most insurance carriers, and our staff will work with you before you come in for your appointment to ensure that you will have the coverage you need. We try to help eliminate the worry, so you can concentrate on getting well.
If you are a patient being referred from another facility, please have your medical records, along with pathology reports and scans sent to our office. These reports must be received by our office three days prior to your scheduled appointment so that your provider can review them before you are seen.
We strive to keep waiting times to a minimum, but please realize that delays can occur due to emergencies and unforeseen patient needs.
We ask that you always:
- Bring your insurance cards.
- Let us know whenever you change your address, telephone number, employment, marital status or insurance.
- Bring a list of all medications that you are currently taking (including over-the-counter remedies, vitamins and herbal supplements.)
- Write down any questions or concerns that you may have to discuss with your physician.
- If you wish, bring someone with you to help listen to your physician’s comments and responses to your questions. Make your next appointment every time you visit our office. This includes lab, and radiology appointments.
We understand that emergencies and special needs can occur, and we will do our very best to accommodate your specific needs. We request that should you need to cancel an appointment that you provide as much notice as possible (48 hours minimum) in order for us to enable another patient to see the doctor. There will be a $25 fee assessed for any patient who fails to keep an appointment without sufficient (48 hour) notice.

If your appointment is more than a few days away, we can mail you a new patient information packet to complete before your visit or you may download a copy from our website.
