Relay for Life is an 18-hour team event
to fight cancer that is held annually in May of each year in several
towns in the Boston area and across the country. It raises awareness
of cancer in the community and raises money to support the programs
and services of the American Cancer Society.
New England Hematology has fielded a team
for the Relay for Life since 2001 and has successfully raised tens of
thousands of dollars for the American Cancer Society. Details on the upcoming May 2008 event will be posted shortly.

What happens at a Relay for Life event? To use the words from the Needham
Relay for Life's own web site:
"It’s
a combination of sights, sounds, and activities and an outpouring of
emotions — fun, hope, community, victory, celebration, triumph,
and tender memories of those we have lost to cancer. Some participants
think it’s life-altering … emotionally impactful and comaraderie
at its best. Whatever Relay means to you, every person involved helps
bring us one step closer to eliminating cancer."
The Relay for Life is the celebration
after months of fund raising for the American Cancer Society. There
will be a Survivors Lap - anyone who has battled cancer
is welcome to join - as well as a Luminaria Ceremony
when luminaria in honor of those who have battled cancer are lit in
a circle around the track. Throughout the night, teams including New
England Hematology/Oncology's team, will have members walking on the
track.
We hope you can join us for this exciting
and moving event.
