NEHO is more than just a clinic. Our team, working in collaboration with the Newton-Wellesley Hospital's Vernon Cancer Center and Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Radiation Oncology, provides personalized care in a private and comfortable setting for cancers such as breast, prostate, lung, colorectal and gynecological malignancies. In addition, benign and malignant blood disorders such as anemia, coagulation disorders, lymphoma, myeloma and leukemia are also treated.

Patient Services

  • Newton-Wellesley Hospital's Vernon Cancer Center also offers educational and support workshops and other positive life-enhancing support services.
  • Cancer Clinical Trials including research conducted by the Newton-Wellesley Hospital research team in collaboration with Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana-Farber Partners Cancer Care.
  • Genetics programs including Newton-Wellesley’s High Risk Assessment Program, genetics counselor, outreach and education.
  • Vernon Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley Hospital offers twice weekly yoga classes and appointments can be made for Reiki and Therapeutic massage
  • Nutritional Support provided by Newton-Wellesley Hospital nutritionists:
    • Management of treatment side effects
    • Assistance with coordination of existing nutritional issues with those imposed by cancer therapies
    • Customized eating plans
    • Strategies for managing changes in appetite and weight loss
    • Recommendations for IV nutrition and tube feedings
    • Guidance regarding foods, supplements, vitamins and herbs
    • Education and useful resources
    • The Vernon Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley Hospital has two nutritionists, Leslie Judge and Christina Chiu, who see patients for individual nutrition counseling. Appointments can be booked at 617-243-1230.
  • The PACT (Parenting At a Challenging Time) Program at Newton-Wellesley Hospital helps parents address the challenges of raising children while undergoing cancer treatment. The PACT team provides individual counseling and works with parents who are concerned about the impact their diagnosis and treatment may have on their children. PACT offers parents the guidance to:
    • Explain and discuss the illness with their children
    • Address common questions and behavior changes
    • Prepare children for hospital visits
    • Develop ways to cope with other concerns
  • Pain management services and palliative care services can be scheduled at Newton-Wellesley Hospital for discussing these issues with your oncologist or nursing staff.
  • Palliative care services that focus on the pain, symptoms and stress of a cancer diagnosis currently provided for inpatients at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, with plans to expand to an outpatient service in the near future.
  • Full-time psychological and social services are available to all of our patients, provided by Newton-Wellesley Hospital's Vernon Cancer Center staff. Further information can be obtained at 617-243-1230.
  • Support Groups for cancer patients and survivors and their families are run by Newton-Wellesley Hospital's Vernon Cancer Center staff.

Nurse Navigator

The Vernon Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley Hospital’s Nurse Navigator, Cindy Krasnecky, is available to guide patients through their diagnosis and treatment and to offer any healthcare-related advice. Cindy can be contacted at 617-243-1230.

Resource Center

Patients and their families have access to the Vernon Cancer Center at Newton-Wellesley Hospital Resource Center with computer access to the American Cancer Society and other related web sites. Books, DVDs and video games are available in the Resource Center.

Wireless Internet Access

Patients have access to wireless Internet service during treatment.
